Dentures![]() Dentures Are a Reliable Tooth Restoration Treatment MethodDentures are a removable set of false teeth. The false teeth are attached to a base that resembles gums to blend with the patient’s mouth aesthetically. Dentures fit directly onto the patient’s natural gums. No surgical procedure is required with the exception of necessary tooth extractions to make way for the placement of the dentures. Complete dentures replace all of a person’s teeth while partial dentures replace a few teeth. Complete dentures are the most common type of dentures. Complete dentures resemble an entire set of teeth and gums that are removable by the patient. Partial dentures replace an arch of teeth instead of all of the patient’s teeth. Partial dentures consist of a gum-colored base with false teeth attached and clamps to hold them in place. These clamps can either be made of metal or gum-colored plastic to appear more discrete. There is a learning curve when it comes to wearing dentures for the first time, but the higher the quality material you use, the easier it is to learn to adapt. For long-term usage, our team recommends porcelain dentures for their durability, resistance to stains, and realistic feeling and appearance. Acrylic resin dentures are also a good option, they are more affordable than porcelain and will be reliable for daily usage. However, acrylic resin dentures typically do not last as long as porcelain dentures. Denture LongevityHow long a pair of dentures lasts will depend on both the material used and the care by the patient. Dentures can last anywhere between 5 and 10 years. Some people are able to go even longer, especially for dentures using quality materials. Patients who want to get the most usage out of their dentures should wash the dentures every night with denture solution and a soft-bristle toothbrush. In addition, denture-wearers should refrain from exposing their dentures to extreme heat or abrasive chemicals, as these will damage and distort the dentures. Additionally, denture-wearers should avoid foods that are a poor fit for dentures such as sticky, tough, and incredibly hard foods. Following these two key rules will drastically extend the life of the patient’s dentures and minimize the time and expenses required to have them replaced on a frequent basis.
