Dental Implant

Implant crown being placed on dental implant.Dental implant surgery is performed to replace the roots of a compromised tooth with titanium posts that fuse to the jaw bone. Patients with strong enough jaw bone who have lost teeth or have damaged teeth and do not smoke are optimal candidates for dental implants. As time progresses, more and more patients are choosing dental implants over bridges and dentures for a wide variety of reasons. Dental implants look, feel and function like normal teeth compared to bridges and dentures.

Those who receive dental implants at our practice find the bone heals quite tightly around the dental implant. Though the fusion of the titanium post to the jaw bone will take some time, it is worth the wait as it ensures the dental implants remain firmly in place in the decades ahead. In fact, dental implants have the potential to last the rest of your life.

Here’s a quick look at the dental implant process. The damaged tooth is removed and the jaw bone is prepared for the placement of dental implants. Once the titanium rod fuses to the jaw, the abutment can be placed. The crown is added to the top of the abutment, serving as an artificial tooth that looks and functions similar to a natural tooth.
